The Effects of a Developmental Program for Social Competences Utilizing Integrated Art Therapy on Adolescence Placed on Probation
Kim Yong-Soo

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to implement a developmental program for social competences with adolescence place on probation and to analyze whether the implementation improved social competences sub-factors such as self-efficacy, social problem-solving ability, and interpersonal relationship. The program was implemented over two periods and a total of 46 adolescents placed on probation were randomly assigned to either the experimental group or the control group. Tests were given before and after the program; and three responses from each group were excluded from final data analysis due to incompleteness. Data analysis was conducted after scoring the before and after tests by each group and using SPSS ANCOVA to find out the difference between groups with respect to before and after tests when pre-test scores are set as covariates. The developmental program for social competences was based on applying integrated arts therapy; and a total of 30 sessions was implemented over the two test periods. According to the study results, post-evaluation indicated that the participants showed improvements in self-efficacy and social problem-solving but not in interpersonal relationship. As for the control group, there was no significant difference found between pre-evaluation and post-evaluation.
